Archaeology in the O'dyllita questline

date of creation: | last update:

This is the first blogpost I write about Black Desert and archaeology, though I didn't mean to, as my original plans were to publish some general thoughts I had at the very beginning of the game.
Given that, I may not list this as the first one of the category in the related index, but I still wanted to keep record about such a chronological inconsistency here -I guess I truly am an archaeologist after all.

Why starting with O'dyllita though?
Quite simply because it's how far I've reached into the main scenario quest as of this date, so I couldn't ignore the first hint of an archaeological background once encontered, so I wanted to quickly record it before actually diving into a more structured blogpost about the whole videogame and/or starting from beginning of the story

Also, this is a nice way to early test an idea of publishing short thoughts and considerations I do while playing along, without the need to write a complete blogpost and rather presenting it as a consecutive set of updated (and possibly brief) journal entries.

As such I introduce you to my "Archaeologist's Log"!

Archaeologist's Log: Salun's Border

The first (direct) reference to archaeology in the O'dyllita questline occurs at Salun's Border.
Despite having visited some ruins and historical monuments (like those of the Turos), as well as having met the archaeologist Lafi Bedmountain once again, I felt like those were merely narrative engine to this section of the Main Scenario.

What we are presented here instead is a kind of matter about an archaeologist undercover in a somewhat complex conflict zone, thus my rant went straight into espionage and archaeology, both in-game lore and within our IRL world with a comparison with Lawrence "of Arabia".

Not bad for a beginning archaeo-log huh? I might have to make separate single blogposts if I will continue like this for each and wanting to add some screenshots too...
As in fact I wrote quite a lot and so for the next archeo-log, I've decided to move them to dedicated blogpost, please enjoy this one at "Archaeology and espionage at Salun's Border in the O'dyllita questline"!

Archaeologist's Log: Grándiha

"Grándiha is a historic island of Kamasylvia" South-East from Grana, as we learn from a guard on the bridge leading to the place. I wonder if, in the language of the Daughters of Sylvia, the suffix -iha means island or what...
Anyway, here I found some very interesting stuff to discuss about "Archaeology, archaeobotanics, and architectural permanence in Black Desert", so go on and check that link for an extended take on the topic!
